SSAB has launched a new press hardening steel that offers the automotive industry an entirely new level of tensile strength – and a steel optimized for safety components.
Docol® PHS 2000 is the result of a close collaboration between SSAB and automotive component manufacturer Gestamp. The goal of the joint development project was to find an even lighter and cost-effective solution for a bumper component – which it did. Upon project completion, Docol® PHS 2000 helped achieve a 17 percent weight reduction compared to similar bumpers.
Docol® PHS 2000 maintains crash ductility, while other mechanical properties such as yield strength and ultimate strength have been significantly improved。 This means that it is especially useful for components like B-pillars, rockers, bumpers, and BIW structural components requiring high strength and complex geometries。
